Hi guys,
I wanted to post a few nutritional recommendations on Cardiovascular Disease, but it does depend on what symptoms you have and what (if any) pharmaceutical drugs you are on. Also, please consult your physician or homeopath if you want to cut down on drugs and start supplementing other things.
So here are a few things I want you to include in your diet:
1) Pomegranate or blueberry juice. You can also eat the fruit, blueberries have lots of antioxidants.
2) Consume 3 medium sized tomatoes or 1/4 cup of tomato sauce (pure tomato sauce, no additives) per day, due to lycopene content. This helps the heart, but be careful because too many tomatoes can cause heartburn due to the high acid content.
3) Suma tea - 3 cups of this herbal tea per day. This in combination with ginkgo biloba extract as directed on the label is very beneficial
4) Ginkgo biloba, ie. ginkgo extract which contains 24% ginkgo flavone glycosides - Ginkgo interferes with Aspirin (after a 3 year period), take Ginkgo once you have stopped taking Aspirin
5) Ginger or papaya tea help aid digestion and act as buffers to stop heartburn. In fact, also eat fresh papaya. Chamomile tea can relieve esophageal irritation.
6) EAT MORE RAW VEGETABLES, try drinking a glass of fresh cabbage or celery juice every day, or every other day. 5 or more servings of vegetables and fruit per day
7) Hawthorn berry, or Crataegus herb - couple of drops everyday
8) Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) increases the effects of statins, so maybe slowly introduce grapefruit as you cut down your dose
9) Soluble fiber - Psyllium husk - get this from the health food store and take 1 tablespoon in 1 glass of cranberry juice or water per day. This will bind to cholesterol and other toxins in the body, naturally lowering your cholesterol.
10) 10 glasses of water per day
What not to do, at least try and cut down:
Do not consume caffeine - containing products, carbonated beverages, creamy cheeses, desserts, fats, fried foods, gravies, rich sauces, marbled meats, onions (especially raw but please do include onions and garlic in your diet for your heart, onions can cause heartburn so you need to be careful), peppermint, poultry skin, processed foods, spicy foods, sugar, tobacco, and SODIUM.
When it comes to supplementing nutraceuticals or remedies, please consult a professional. Here are a few examples of beneficial supplements:
1) CoQ10 - very beneficial when on a statin. If you take your statin in the morning, take CoQ10 in the afternoon. You need 300mg/day of CoQ10
2) Magnesium - around 400 mg per day. Magnesium is in nuts and seeds - try to eat almonds and sunflower seeds. 1 cup of almonds contains 419mg, 1 cup of sunflower seeds contains 156 mg
3) Flaxseed Oil or Fish Oil as directed on the label, your body needs essential omega-3 fatty acids. This is beneficial to everyone, not only those with Cardiovascular issues.
Thanks,
Sarah
